Tomorrowland
Tomorrowland can be found in the eastern portion of the Magic Kingdom. The original plan for Tomorrowland was to represent the future through the eyes of Disney. Of course, the view of the future is subject to continual updates. Therefore, Disney began updating Tomorrowland in 1994 in order to make it resemble the view of the future as it was envisioned by sci-fi writers from the 1920’s and the 1930’s, which was a layout proven to be successful at Disneyland Paris.
In 1995, the newly conceptualized and remodeled Tomorrowland was opened and subtitled the “Future that NeverWas.” Now, Tomorrowland looks like a city of the future, complete with neon palm trees, futuristic glass and metal, and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority providing transportation throughout the city. The Avenue of Planets creates a path to the Rockettower Plaza and the Tomorrowland Metro-Retro Society and the Tomorrowland Interplantary Convention Center both sponsor the Carousel of Progress. Space Mountain, one of the more popular Magic Kingdom rides, is also found in Tomorrowland.
Other attractions in Tomorrowland include the Astro Orbiter, which takes guests on a ride high over the area. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ragner Spin gives guests the opportunity to be junior space rangers while the Carousel of Progress takes guests on a journey through 100 years of human progress. Stich’s Great Escape provides guests with an unforgettable 4-D experience while the Timekeeper, which is hosted by Robin Williams, takes guests on a funny journey through time.
Visitors can also grab a snack while in Tomorrowland at the Launching Pad within the Rockettower Plaza, or at Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies, or at the Cool Ship. Complete lunches, such as sandwiches, burgers, and salads can be purchased at Ray’s Starlight Café. The one and only intergalactic lounge singer, Sonny Eclipse, can also be seen at the Café. Fried chicken, pizza, and salads can be purchased at the Plaza Pavilion.
Shopping opportunities also abound in Tomorrowland. Here, souvenirs can be purchased at stores such as Ursa’s Major Minor Mart and Geiger’s Counter. Mickey’s Star Traders offers jewelry, books, film, toys, and hats, while the Merchant of Venus sells wigs, Stitch merchandise, jewelry, futuristic toys, home décor, and fashion merchandise.
