by Cinderella Castle

The fairytale gateway into Disney World’s Fantasyland, Cinderella Castle is situated right in the central hub of the Magic Kingdom theme park. Its spires are visible from quite a distance away, an iconic romantic silhouette that has come to symbolise what Disney is all about.

Rising up 190 feet into the sky, the fantastical fairytale castle is inspired by a selection of real and fictional castles, including Fontainebleau in Versailles, the chateaus of Chenonceau, Chambord and Chaumont, and of course by the original design for the castle from the Disney film of Cinderella. The castle is surrounded by a moat, while the ever-descended drawbridge welcomes awe-struck visitors to its 27 towers, and Cinderella’s Royal Table, where boys and girls are addresses as "prince" or "princess", and the adults as "lord" or "lady"...

The castle really comes into its own at night however; when the sun sets, 16.7 million lights illuminate the turrets and sparkle on the moat. At the park’s clos-ing time, Roy O. Disney’s dedicated words for the Magic Kingdom Kiss Good-night is played to a backdrop of classic Disney music, until the sun rises again for another magical day.
